Everyone makes a goal for his/her life. When I make a goal, I usually plan things that are a little higher than what I actually can achieve. For example, if you are deciding which college to go, I would plan for Ivy league schools first and study for that goal. I believe that although I don’t get accepted by Harvard, I would probably get accepted by good enough schools. According to Birnbaum, “Be wary of any and all causes ‘larger than yourself.’ Only those at the top-of-the-pyramid emerge NET WINNERS.” This is very true and realistic. But, although I know the reality, I will not give up my hope. The phrase that Only the top person can be the winner would sound very direct, but believing in it would also encourage me to develop.

As we all know, positive thinking leads to a better life. Most people might be likely to think that positive thinking means to understand the world through colored lenses. If so, we need to fix the way we think. I think positive thinking actually is to face life’s challenges with a positive perspective. Avoiding or ignoring negative things does equal to positive thinking. I think that we should try hard to discover the best in yourself and other people in a positive outlook.

Understanding and respecting all races are important. Especially New York is the largest amount of diversities. Those who live in New York see all kinds of diversities everyday. Just because skin color is different does not mean that we all are different. I think that race does not exist. We may define cultural, political and economic difference in society as races. But, in a biological way, all human is the same. According to Birnbaum, “Understand that each individual is a universe.” We should all respect one another.

People who live upstair always are loud. They don’t care if it is midnight or in the morning. There are three kids who always play with balls. They are Mexican people. I always complained that how noisy they are and how much I don’t like Mexican people. But after reading Birnbaum’s books several times, I completely realized that all the Mexicans are not like that. I should not judge people with only one experience.

Although you are in a bad situation, such as having an abusive family and friends, don’t give upon yourself. There is always a way to change your life. Once you change the way you think about life, once you get out of from the darkness, your life will be changed. According to Birnbaum, he insists that “exit dark universes, brighten your universe. We all can do it.

Believing yourself is very important. My brother goes to college, majoring in computer engineering. He always says that he will study hard and work at Google. That is his dream job. I always say that will be hard. However, he never gives up, he always says that I am smart, I can do it. He is very truthful to himself. According to Birnbaum, “believe in yourself, follow your star and go for victory.” I hope my brother can achieve what he wants to do.

 I ‘d like to share a little about the reasons I think positivity is very important. I think that positivity is choosing to see the bright side of life. Everything, such as things that are sad or happy, depends on how you think.  When you see and think things positively, it will totally change the way of your life. On the other hand, negative thoughts will drain you of energy and keep you from being in the present moment.
